Responsibilities

Job Summary

Supports various practice aspects, including charge entry and collection of co-payments at the time of service. Assists the physician in maintaining efficient patient flow. Under the direction of a Physician/Physician Assistant, performs clerical and patient support duties such as scheduling, reception, telephone communication, data entry, and exam room and medical chart preparation. Coordinates with managed care plans to obtain prior authorization to ensure reimbursement. Reports to the Manager for office duties and to physicians for clinical and patient care responsibilities. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care according to policies, procedures, protocols, and Arizona validated competencies. Essential Functions

  • Schedules patients and provides necessary information for appointments and procedures, including lab work, x-rays, and referrals. Verifies authorizations, transmits faxed information, and manages billing and collections to ensure optimal revenue. Initiates confirmation calls to reduce no-shows. Organizes scheduling, registration, and payment policies.
  • Prepares treatment rooms, reviews patient charts, and assists with exams and procedures. Ensures exam rooms are clean and stocked, and recalls for labs and procedures are managed.
  • Handles incoming calls from patients, pharmacies, and others, relaying information to providers. Manages pharmacy medication orders and refills.
  • Performs front office duties such as reception, patient greeting, information verification, chart maintenance, insurance processing, and scheduling.
  • Coordinates with insurance companies for authorizations for therapies, testing, and referrals.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program - Required
  • High School Diploma or GED - Required

Experience

  • 1 year experience in a medical office or hospital setting - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
  • Completion of an approved training program or equivalent, with successful passing of a recognized medical assistant exam - Required
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required (or within 7 days of employment)
  • Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CMA, CCMA, RMA) - Preferred, with reimbursement for exam costs
