Responsibilities
Job SummarySupports practice operations, including charge entry and collecting co-payments. Assists physicians in maintaining efficient patient flow. Performs clerical and patient support duties such as scheduling, reception, data entry, and exam room preparation. Coordinates with managed care plans for prior authorizations. Reports to the Manager for office duties and to physicians for clinical responsibilities. Demonstrates knowledge to provide appropriate care in accordance with policies and protocols.
Essential Functions- Schedules patients, prepares them for appointments, and manages referrals and authorizations. Collects co-payments and enters charges. Conducts confirmation calls to reduce no-shows. Organizes scheduling, registration, and payment policies.
- Prepares exam rooms, reviews patient charts, takes vital signs, and assists providers during exams. Restocks exam rooms and manages lab, visit, and procedure recalls.
- Handles patient and provider communications, including relaying information and managing medication refills.
- Performs front office duties such as reception, verification, chart maintenance, and scheduling.
- Communicates with insurance companies for authorizations.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program - Required
- High School Diploma or GED - Required
Experience
- 1 year experience in a medical office or hospital setting - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program or equivalent, and certification by an accredited organization - Required
- Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required (or within 7 days of employment)
- Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CMA, CCMA, RMA) - Preferred; HonorHealth will reimburse exam costs
