Job summary

NaphCare is partnering with Everhealth to hire a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our medical team in Montgomery, Alabama, serving individuals incarcerated by the Alabama Department of Corrections. The NP will assess, diagnose, treat, and manage medical conditions within a secure correctional setting.

Responsibilities include exams, treating chronic diseases, prescribing, emergency response, and patient education in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctorate in Nursing required.
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Collaborative agreement with on-site Physician.
  • BLS CPR certification (American Heart Association preferred).
  • Board certification recognized by ABMS.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical exams and develop treatment plans.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions (asthma, HTN, diabetes).
  • Administer medications and provide patient instructions.
  • Monitor health, vital signs, and medical histories.
  • Provide direct patient care, triage, and care coordination.
  • Respond to emergencies and arrange timely transport.
  • Educate patients on prevention and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Adhere to correctional facility security protocols.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and reports.

Overview

NaphCare is partnering with Everhealth to hire a Nurses Practitioner (NP) to join our team of medical professionals in Montgomery, Alabama, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Alabama Department of Corrections - Montgomery Women's Facility.

As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, respond to emergencies, etc. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

  • Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patients

  • Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.
  • Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
  • Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.
  • Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off-site treatment
  • Admitting and discharging patients from the facility
Qualifications
Experience / Requirements / Qualifications
  • Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in STATE
  • Current DEA registration
  • An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)
  • Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
Experience / Skills
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Physical Capabilities

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
