Job summary

NaphCare, Inc. is hiring licensed practical or vocational nurses to work in Mt. Meigs, AL with correctional patients. Roles include full-time or part-time nursing in a controlled facility, performing assessments, med administration, and chronic disease management.

New grads are encouraged to apply; we provide training in correctional healthcare and aim to develop skills in emergency response, documentation, and patient education while ensuring safety in a secured environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Actively state-certified as an LPN or LVN.
• Obtain BLS CPR certification (AHA preferred).
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse patients including mental health or substance use cases.
• Pass background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems and medication history.
• Take vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight.
• Provide wound care, including cleaning and bandaging.
• Administer medications, including injections and monitoring reactions.
• Maintain medical records in the electronic health record (TechCare).
• Observe patient health and mental health status.
• Provide emergency first aid.
• Provide patient education and discharge planning.

Overview

NaphCare is hiring LPNs and LVNs to join our team of medical professionals in Mt. Meigs, AL, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Alabama Department of Corrections - Kilby Correctional Facility. Full Time and Part Time positions may be available! As a Correctional Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

• Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
• Obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
• Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
• Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
• Pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
