Job summary

The Sacramento Office of La Follette Johnson, DeHaas, Fesler & Ames seeks a highly motivated associate with 1–5 years of civil litigation experience to defend healthcare providers in complex medical negligence cases. You will manage caseloads, develop case strategy, and draft pleadings and motions.

The ideal candidate will appear in court, conduct legal research, coordinate with expert witnesses, and participate in settlement negotiations and trial preparation.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice in California and in good standing.
• Civil litigation experience, preferably in healthcare defense.
• Strong writing and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Westlaw/Lexis, and PDF tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload and develop case strategy.
• Evaluate and analyze cases to shape litigation approach.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and research memoranda.
• Propound and respond to discovery.
• Prepare case summaries, medical chronologies, deposition outlines.
• Appear in court to argue evidentiary motions and attend hearings.
• Defend and take depositions.
• Identify, retain, and manage expert witnesses.
• Prepare for and participate in settlement negotiations.
• Contribute to trial preparation and develop comprehensive strategies.
• Conduct legal research.
• Participate in mentoring sessions and internal training.
