The Doctors Company is seeking an experienced Claims Specialist for our Region II team. This is a remote or hybrid opportunity, depending on the final candidate’s location from the company's office, with the preferred location in the Midwest.

The Claims Specialist independently and proactively manages medical malpractice claims for assigned members. Monitors and reviews all new claims for designated members and establishes a plan of action to achieve favorable resolutions. Attends and facilitates member meetings and claim reviews. Reviews and recommends appropriate case reserves. Negotiates settlements when appropriate, attends trials, and provides insights and analysis. Acts as a trusted resource and partner with physician members.

Responsibilities
  1. Completes initial coverage analysis
  2. Develops a plan of action on assigned cases in conjunction with defense counsel and supervisor
  3. Interviews insureds within performance standards/guidelines
  4. Consults with external stakeholders (insured, claimant, defense attorney, plaintiff attorney) to optimize investigation and discovery results
  5. Interfaces with insured members to provide ongoing support and disclosure of investigation results
  6. Recommends assignment of litigated matters to appropriate defense panel members
  7. Partners with defense counsel for optimal outcomes on all cases
  8. Monitors and approves fees and expenses within authority
  9. Evaluates facts, allegations, liability, and damages, maintaining appropriate case reserves
  10. Recommends resolution courses to regional leadership based on investigations
  11. Attends mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials as necessary
  12. Provides risk/benefit analysis to members
  13. Supports members throughout the claim lifecycle up to and through trial
  14. Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Juris Doctorate preferred
  • 3-5 years of medical malpractice or claims-related experience
Salary Range

$101,990 - $118,989. Compensation varies based on skills, knowledge, and education, considering factors such as specialized skills and educational background.
