Job summary

UMC Health System in Lubbock, TX is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technician to test patient specimens, ensure test accuracy, and communicate results to providers.

Under supervision, you will follow CAP/AABB/DNV/FDA guidelines when applicable, perform basic equipment maintenance, and handle duties across the laboratory while collaborating with nursing staff. AA/AS in approved science and fluent English are required.

Learn more about why we are one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas.Job Summary Medical Laboratory Technicians are responsible for testing patient specimens, ensuring accuracy of tests, and communicating results to providers Reports to: Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: • Prepare and test patient specimens • Ensuring requirements of the CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA (as applicable to section/shift) are followed • Ensure equipment is operational by performing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting as needed • All other duties assigned related to the medical laboratory Education and Experience • AA/AS in approved science Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations N/A Skills and Abilities • Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered • Proficient use of computer peripherals • Clear communicator; speak, read, and write English fluently Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This position has much interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments Physical Capabilities Medical Laboratory Technicians can expect to stand for long periods of time and walk frequently. This position also requires frequent stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and kneeling. The incumbent may also be required to carry items up to 50 pounds. Near visual and color acuity is required.
