Qualifications

Job Description

Under general supervision and following established laboratory procedures, performs routine medical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. May also perform phlebotomy. Maintains compliance and confidentiality, supporting the organization’s mission and philosophy.

Responsibilities
  1. Process specimens, perform tests, and report results.
  2. Arrange for specimen pickup or delivery to reference or outside labs.
  3. Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
  4. Follow quality control policies, document activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
  5. Recognize factors affecting results and address or escalate issues.
  6. Identify critical test results, inform relevant personnel, and document.
  7. Communicate test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements.
  8. Train students and new staff in technical skills.
  9. Ensure remedial actions are taken for deviations from performance standards.
  10. Verify test system functionality before reporting patient results.
  11. Administer tests according to policies and procedures.
  12. Apply Total Quality Management guidelines.
  13. Comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and organizational policies.
  14. Maintain regular attendance and work holiday shifts as required.
Additional Duties
  • Perform phlebotomy if qualified.
  • Assist in assessment reviews and scheduling if qualified.
  • Perform high complexity testing under supervision if qualified.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
For Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT):
  • Associate degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or MLT with training completion.
  • Preferred: ASCP or AMT certification.
  • Phlebotomy may be required.
  • Qualified as Testing Personnel under CLIA.
For Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT):
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related science and completion of an accredited clinical laboratory program with 1+ years of experience (including training), or
  • Four or more years of experience in clinical laboratory with a science degree.
  • Certification eligibility (ASCP or AMT).
  • Phlebotomy may be required.
  • Qualified as Testing Personnel under CLIA.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of laboratory policies, procedures, and CLIA regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle priorities.
  • Teamwork, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Customer service and communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Windows.
  • Professional conduct and ability to follow instructions.
Work Schedule

Rotating schedule: Fridays 7:00 am-6:00 pm, Saturdays & Sundays 7:30 am-5:30 pm, Mondays-Thursdays 7:00 am-6:00 pm.
