Job summary

ECU Health Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, NC seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to perform routine clinical lab tests under SOPs, run quality controls, calibrations, and analyze results for accuracy.

The PRN position requires the ability to work days/evenings/nights and weekends; associate degree or CLS program enrollment is required, with ASCP certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or enrollment in an accredited CLS program with rotations completed.
• Equivalent US military laboratory training/work experience meets education requirements.
• ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patient specimens for laboratory testing and perform department-specific tests.
• Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
• Communicate test results in a timely manner and enter data into laboratory systems.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
• Demonstrate respectful, compassionate behavior toward patients and staff.
• Work alternate shifts as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including phlebotomy.

Job description

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.

As An MLT, You Will

• Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.


• Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.


• Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.


• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.


• Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.


• Works alternate shifts as required.


• Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Minimum Requirements

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services).


• Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.

Preferred

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
