Job summary

ECU Health's Outer Banks Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform clinical tests per SOPs, monitor quality, and report results accurately. You will prepare specimens, calibrate instruments, and maintain equipment while upholding compassionate patient care.

The role includes shift rotations and potential phlebotomy duties. Requirements include an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or enrollment in a CLIA-appropriate program, with military-equivalent training

Qualifications

• Certification as Medical Laboratory Technician is preferred.
• Must have Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or be enrolled in CLIA program rotations.
• Military training equivalent to laboratory education may meet requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patient specimens and perform department-specific tests.
• Monitor test results to assure quality and validity.
• Enter and retrieve data from laboratory information systems.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
• Demonstrate respectful, compassionate behavior toward patients and staff.
• Work alternate shifts as required.
• Perform duties including phlebotomy when assigned.

Job description

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.

As An MLT, You Will

• Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.
• Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
• Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
• Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
• Works alternate shifts as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Minimum Requirements

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services).
• Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.

Preferred

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.

Track Shift: 6:30 pm - 7 am

• Week 1: Thursday - Saturday
• Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, & Thursday
• Week 3: Wednesday - Friday

The Outer Banks Hospital is a full-service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The 21-bed facility is designed to meet the needs of the coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 350,000 in the summer season.
