Job summary

Oyate Health Center seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform hematology, chemistry, serology, urinalysis, microbiology, and microscopic tests for patients. You will prepare reagents, analyze body fluids, and report results with accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician program
  • Certification within six months of hire by ASCP or AMT
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 90 days
  • Criminal background check clearance
  • Pre-employment drug screen
  • Immunizations: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu, T-dap, COVID-19
  • Compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, CAP regulations
  • Ability to perform essential functions with/without accommodations
  • Regular attendance and reliability

Responsibilities

  • Perform hematology, chemistry, serology, urinalysis, microbiology, and microscopic tests
  • Conduct analyses of body fluids and tissue for normal/abnormal components
  • Prepare reagents and reference materials
  • Perform non-routine and specialized testing using manual/instrumental techniques
  • Troubleshoot instrument/reagent malfunctions
  • Verify data and correlate analytical results
  • Prepare and distribute patient laboratory reports
  • Record test findings and enter into computer systems
  • Perform instrument maintenance, calibration, and checks
  • Document repairs and maintenance needs
  • Maintain quality control procedures and records
  • Perform phlebotomy to obtain blood samples
  • Maintain collaboration with interdepartmental and external stakeholders
  • Adhere to established standards and policies; ensure timely performance
  • Maintain attendance and comply with required systems and technology
  • Report to Lab Manager; no direct reports

Job description

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform hematology, chemistry, serology, urinalysis, microbiology, and microscopic tests for Oyate Health Center patients
  • Conduct analyses of body fluids and tissue to identify normal and abnormal components
  • Prepare reagents and primary reference materials
  • Perform non-routine and specialized testing using manual and instrumental techniques
  • Recognize and correct instrument and reagent malfunctions
  • Obtain, convert, correlate, and verify analytical data
  • Prepare and distribute patient laboratory reports
  • Perform manual differentials and enter test findings into a computer
  • Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and function checks on laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Record equipment repairs and maintenance needs and perform simple repairs
  • Conduct quality control procedures and maintain quality control records
  • Perform phlebotomy to obtain blood samples
  • Maintain collaborative interdepartmental and external relations
  • Perform related duties accurately, timely, and according to established standards
  • Maintain attendance, follow policies and regulations, and use required systems and technology
  • Report to the Lab Manager; no direct reports
Requirements
  • Associate degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician Program
  • Valid certification by a recognized certifying agency (ASCP, AMT) within six months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment
  • License not required by South Dakota
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must complete required immunizations before the first day of employment: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Influenza, T-dap, and COVID-19 vaccination
  • Must comply with HIPAA and applicable federal, state, local, CAP, and CLIA regulations
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Rotating shifts, with occasional weekends and holidays
