Responsibilities
Job Summary: Accurately analyzes and reports all tests ordered by the Medical Staff in a timely manner and according to laboratory procedures and regulatory guidelines to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities:
- Perform lab test procedures on patient specimens in compliance with local and state requirements, adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
- Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around-time limits.
- Ensure major automated equipment is operational by performing maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and contacting vendors for assistance or repairs.
- Perform calibration and quality control procedures, maintaining records to ensure tests are within established parameters.
- Participate in proficiency testing and review results with laboratory leaders.
- Assist in evaluating and documenting new procedures and equipment to provide current laboratory technology to physicians.
- Engage in continuing education, training, and teaching to enhance technical skills of staff and trainees.
- Manage inventory of supplies, monitor stock levels, and assist with ordering and storage.
- Complete all work within scheduled shifts, resolving issues or passing them to incoming staff as appropriate.
- Represent CommonSpirit Health professionally, communicating effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and the public via various communication channels.
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate’s Degree in biological or chemical sciences as defined by CLIA, OR
- High school diploma/GED plus completion of an official military medical laboratory course and holding the Military Occupational Specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician).
Required Licensure and Certifications:
- California: MLT:CA
- Nevada: MLT:NV
- North Dakota: MLT-L:ND
- Tennessee: MLT-L:TN or MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification (per requirement sheet)
- Georgia: MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification (per requirement sheet)
- Other states: Not required
Preferred Certification: MLT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training:
- Appropriate training in clinical laboratory science as judged by the Director of the Clinical Laboratory.
