Job summary

St. Luke’s Health – Memorial Lufkin is seeking a Medical Lab Technologist to perform vital clinical laboratory procedures, including waived and moderate tests, under leadership direction.

You will work with various disciplines, ensuring safety, accuracy, and timely reporting while maintaining equipment and documentation. The role requires knowledge of lab principles across microbiology, hematology, chemistry, and related areas, sample processing, result interpretation, and adherence to safety

Qualifications

  • Associate of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA, upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational speciality of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician), upon hire or
  • High School Graduate General Studies completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational speciality of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician), upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Aligning with local and state requirements, perform lab test procedures on patient specimens adhering to SOPs to ensure accurate, timely reporting
  • Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, rapid notification of critical values, and testing within established turn-around-time limits
  • Ensure major automated equipment is operational by performing maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting; contact instrument vendor for assistance or repair
  • Perform calibration and quality control procedures and maintain records to ensure tests are within parameters
  • Perform proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory leaders
  • Assist in evaluation and generation of documentation for validation of new procedures and equipment for up-to-date lab technology

Education

Associate of Science in biological or chemical science (CLIA defined)
Military medical laboratory course (Lab Technician) – GED path
High School Graduate with military medical laboratory course (Lab Technician)

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment.

Every day, you will expertly conduct waived and moderate procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems, providing essential clinical laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction.

To be successful in this role, you will possess comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across various disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.), understand sample processing and result interpretation, prioritize chemical and biological safety, and be adept at operating and maintaining lab equipment.

  • Aligning with local and state requirements performs lab test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
  • Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around-time limits
  • Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures; including contacting of instrument vendor for assistance or repair
  • Performs required calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters
  • Performs proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders
  • Assists in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology
