Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a Medical Lab Technologist to perform vital clinical laboratory procedures, including waived and moderate tests, to detect and report data essential for disease diagnosis and treatment.

You will handle sample processing, operate and maintain lab equipment, and ensure safety across microbiology, hematology, chemistry, and related disciplines. This role supports timely results and requires adherence to SOPs and quality control standards.

Qualifications

  • Associates Of Science or higher in biological/chemical sciences as defined by CLIA, upon hire.
  • Military medical laboratory training or equivalent certification upon hire.
  • Relevant certified lab qualifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform waived and moderate laboratory procedures on patient specimens.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of test results.
  • Maintain calibration and quality control records.
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on automated equipment.
  • Review results with clinical leadership and notify caregivers of critical values.
  • Assist in validation of new procedures and equipment.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment.

Every day, you will expertly conduct waived and moderate procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems, providing essential clinical laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction.

To be successful in this role, you will possess comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across various disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.), understand sample processing and result interpretation, prioritize chemical and biological safety, and be adept at operating and maintaining lab equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Aligning with local and state requirements performs lab test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
  • Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-aroundtime limits
  • Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures; including contacting of instrument vendor for assistance or repair
  • Performs required calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters
  • Performs proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders
  • Assists in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology
