Job summary

Ramsey County is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist Supervisor to oversee the operation of a medical and/or environmental laboratory and its staff. The role includes supervising personnel, ensuring quality standards, and providing technical oversight for test procedures and equipment.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, five years of MLS experience, and national MLS certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology or closely related field.
• Five years as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a patient-centered environment or equivalent.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by a national agency is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise laboratory staff including hiring, training, evaluating, and scheduling; set goals; plan and supervise work; ensure quality standards are met.
• Provide technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory by evaluating procedures and equipment; update Lab Policy and Procedure Manual.
• Prepare the lab for inspection and certification by accreditation agencies.
• Perform and interpret laboratory tests on blood, urine, and other fluids; review results for accuracy before releasing to clients.
• Conduct quality control procedures to conform to state and federal regulations and certification requirements.
• Ensure safety practices mandated by relevant laws and regulations are followed.
• Develop and monitor budgets; submit monthly and quarterly billings.
• Review contracts with outside suppliers of goods and services.
• Gather data for reports to clients, programs, and organizations; manage inventory and procurement.
• Occasionally work phlebotomy and bench tasks outside core hours.
