Medical Laboratory Scientist - Toxicology

Shift: Day Shift (start at 6:30 am, rotation to start at 4:30 am)

Description: Position: Medical Laboratory Scientist
Department: Toxicology - Warde Lab
Location: Warde Lab - Ann Arbor
Status: Full Time, 40 hours/week

Warde Medical Laboratory, part of Trinity Health System, provides comprehensive laboratory services including clinical and forensic toxicology. Responsibilities include instrument operation, specimen preparation for LC/MSMS and GC/MS analysis, and result reporting. Knowledge of wet chemistry techniques is important.

Minimum Requirements:

• Baccalaureate degree in Life Sciences or Medical Technology from an accredited institution. Relevant work experience may be considered with proper transcripts.
• Prior experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
• Certification in Medical Technology (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – ASCP, or NCLS preferred.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. The role involves instrument operation, specimen handling, and result reporting, with basic knowledge of chemistry techniques.

Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with physicians, nursing staff, and other personnel.
• Analytical skills for interpreting complex test results.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills for managing high-volume testing efficiently.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing tests following established procedures.
• Recording and reporting results promptly and accurately.
• Performing quality control, equipment maintenance, and calibration.
• Notifying relevant personnel of issues or abnormal results.
• Participating in department meetings, continuing education, and quality assurance activities.
• Training staff and assuming Tech-in-Charge duties as assigned.
