Qualifications

• Associate degree in medical laboratory required.
• 2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform automated and non-automated lab testing and maintain competency.
• Troubleshoot and correct issues with tests, instruments, pre-/post-analytical steps.
• Plan and prioritize workload to ensure timely results.
• Assist with specimen processing including phlebotomy and POC testing.
• Monitor quality control, QA, and variance reporting.

Join Emplify Health by Gundersen Hillsboro as a Medical Lab Scientist and help deliver accurate, timely laboratory results that support patient care. In this role, you will perform a variety of automated and non-automated testing, troubleshoot technical issues, support quality standards, and collaborate with the lab team to keep operations running smoothly. Your work helps advance our mission of empathy amplified by supporting safe, reliable care behind the scenes and at the bedside.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform automated and non-automated laboratory testing and maintain competency through departmental skills rosters.
• Recognize unexpected test results, troubleshoot problems, and take corrective action for technical, instrument, pre-analytical, and post-analytical issues.
• Plan and prioritize workload demands to help ensure accurate and timely laboratory results.
• Assist with specimen processing and collection, including phlebotomy, capillary draws, and point of care testing.
• Monitor quality control, quality assurance, and variance reporting to ensure acceptable performance standards.
• Evaluate and interpret ambiguous or changing data and determine appropriate corrective action.
• Understand laboratory data flow through the laboratory information system and electronic health records.
• Support continuity of service during system failures so laboratory data continues to be delivered accurately and on time.
• Participate in selecting, validating, and implementing new test methodologies and instrumentation.
• Train and educate others in the laboratory on new technologies and procedures.
• Orient, train, and assess new employees and students.
• Personally interact with, engage with, and care for patients.
• Ensure patient safety.

What you will need

• Associate degree in medical laboratory required. Primary source verification or a copy of the diploma or transcript for the specific degree must be on file at time of hire.
• 2 years of prior experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
• Medical Technologist certification preferred.
• Medical Laboratory Technician certification preferred.
• Strong problem solving, teamwork, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
