Job summary

Endeavor Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) for Skokie Hospital to join our clinical team. The role is full-time, with hours Monday–Friday, 2:30pm–11pm, with some weekend and rotating holidays, and requires a Bachelor's in Biological Science; MLS/MLT certification preferred.

You will evaluate test results, prepare blood components, perform antibody screening, and maintain equipment while adhering to quality control standards. Competitive hourly pay and benefits provided.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results, recording and reporting findings accurately.
• Process and prepare blood components such as red blood cells, platelets, and plasma for transfusions, following SOP.
• Conduct antibody screening and compatibility testing on blood samples using advanced equipment.
• Maintain equipment and supplies, troubleshooting issues as needed.
• Ensure proper inventory management of blood products and monitor expiration dates.
• Adhere to quality control and QA processes, performing routine checks.
• Perform routine processing and cryopreservation of HPCs using sterile technique and GMP.

Position Highlights

• Location: Skokie Hospital
• Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 2:30pm-11pm, e/o weekend and rotating holidays

What You Will Do

• Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results, recording and reporting findings accurately
• Process and prepare blood components such as red blood cells, platelets, and plasma for transfusions, following standard operating procedures
• Conduct antibody screening and compatibility testing on blood samples, using advanced laboratory equipment and techniques
• Maintain equipment, instruments, and supplies in good working condition, troubleshooting issues as needed
• Ensure proper inventory management of blood products by monitoring expiration dates and maintaining appropriate stock levels
• Adhere to quality control and quality assurance processes, performing routine checks and participating in proficiency testing
• Performs routine processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) according to SOP, using sterile technique and following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

What You Will Need

• Education: Preferred: graduated from MLS (Bachelors) or MLT (Associates) program. Required (at least): Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science
• Certification: Preferred: MLS or MLT certification
• Experience: Preferred: Previous relevant clinical experience. New graduates are welcome.
• Unique or Preferred Skills: Strong foundation in medical laboratory science. Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to various Laboratory areas with assistance under supervision. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel to assist with taking corrective action. Good communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
