Job summary

Endeavor Health is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – Microbiology for Evanston Hospital. This part-time role (20 hours) runs Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm, with occasional weekend/holiday rotation.

You will perform various clinical microbiology tests, maintain equipment, and ensure accurate diagnostic results. Education must meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing; MT or MLS (ASCP) certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a laboratory science or medical technology to meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing.
• MT or MLS (ASCP) certification preferred.
• Experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical microbiology tests under supervision to support diagnosis and treatment.
• Maintain and calibrate multiplex instrumentation systems for accuracy.
• Identify and resolve problems affecting test performance or reporting; escalate as needed.
• Communicate effectively with team and document results.

Position Highlights

• Position: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - Microbiology
• Location: Evanston Hospital
• Full Time/Part Time: Part time, 20 hours
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am –3:30pm, e/o weekend and rotating holidays

What You Will Do

• Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clinical microbiology tests in one or more sections of the laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Ensures the accuracy and precision of diagnostic results through performance of maintenance and calibration of multiplex instrumentation systems.
• Routinely resolves technical and interdepartmental problems related to the various laboratory areas.
• Readily identify problems that may adversely affect performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying supervising personnel when appropriate.
• Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with others. Good communication and organizational skills.

What You Will Need

• Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a laboratory science or medical technology and/or the required courses to meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing.
• Certification: MT or MLS (ASCP) preferred
• Experience: Experience preferred
• Unique or Preferred Skills: Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to the various Laboratory areas with assistance and under supervision. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel to assist with taking corrective action. Good communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
