Job summary

HealthPartners is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to support the Central lab. The role requires a BS in Medical Technology or related science with at least 12 months of clinical education and 2 years of experience, or an AS degree with HEW/MT/CLS certification and 5 years of experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a related science from an accredited college or university and at least 12 months of clinical education and 2 years experience in a specified area.
• Two-year Associate Degree with appropriate clinical education and HEW certification as a Medical Technologist plus 5 years experience in a specified area.

Responsibilities

• Support and conform to laboratory safety policies and understand chemical/biological hazards.
• Perform a variety of tests per established procedures and understand test reactions and expected patient values.
• Act as a resource for laboratory personnel, nursing personnel and physicians and discuss test results with providers as needed.
• Make sound independent decisions regarding troubleshooting when control or patient results fall outside expected limits.
• Ensure equipment maintenance and instrument calibration is performed regularly and recognize instrument malfunctions.
• Have working knowledge of the laboratory computer system and perform designated functions.
• Assist in evaluating new products and instrumentation under direction of supervisors and lead technologists.
• Assist in verifying the accuracy of all work performed and cover Lead duties during vacations/leaves if needed.
• Maintain awareness of current technical information in the area of responsibility.
• Assist in teaching laboratory technicians and train on theory and practical techniques.
• Perform other laboratory-related work as assigned by the Supervisor/Lead Medical Technologist.
