Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead – Phlebotomy

  1. Work location Texas Health Ft. Worth 1301 Pennsylvania Ave Fort Worth, TX 76104
  2. Work hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM rotating weekends and holidays
  3. This position will be in the Phlebotomy Department

Here’s What You Need:

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree required.
  2. Medical Technology, Applied Technology, Clinical Lab Science or Chemical, Physical or Biological Science preferred.
  3. Individuals hired as a CLS II/CLS Lead prior to January 3, 2010 will be grandfathered to the MLS Lead position with existing education.

Experience:

  1. 4 years’ experience in a Medical Laboratory required
  2. 2 years leadership experience preferred

Licenses:

  1. MLS (ASCP) Medical Lab Scientist required within 6 months after hire
  2. MT (ASCP) Medical Technologist required within 6 months after hire
  3. AMT, AAB, HHS, NCA, HEW, CLS- CA, FL, NY state license, Philippine Board of Technical Technology required upon hire
  4. Or M (ASCP) – Microbiology required within 6 months after hire
  5. BB (ASCP) – Blood Bank required within 6 months after hire

Skills:

  1. Strong positive interpersonal skills.
  2. Ability to read, write and speak English clearly.
  3. Problem solving ability, time management skills.
  4. Possess organizational skills to function successfully in a fast-paced work environment.
  5. Computer literate in Word, Excel or other databases.
  6. Administrative skills to compile statistics and maintain logs.
  7. Ability to multitask.
  8. Preferred: Experience with Cerner Millennium LIS.

Here’s What You Will Do:

  1. Maintains a working knowledge of continuous improvement and applies concepts and processes to the satisfaction of all accrediting agency requirements for the section:
  2. Assists bench technologist in solving QC and technical problems.
  3. Reviews, evaluates and oversees corrective action for monthly QC.
  4. Proficiency testing.
  5. Oversees distribution, reviews returned results, completes corrective action as needed.
  6. Prepares reports for Clinical Pathologist as needed.
  7. Participates on CI and Process Improvement teams.
  8. Documents review for selected results and/or maintenance logs, billing programs, etc.
  9. Adheres to CAP checklist requirements.
  10. Performs ongoing and periodic review of policies and procedures as defined by the Laboratory regulatory agency and revises as needed for compliance.
  11. Participates in yearly CAP checklist (interim and 2 year).
  12. Delegate proficiency testing and review results if required by entity.
  13. Maintains technical knowledge and uses technical skills to participate in daily operation of the section including:
  14. Assumes bench duties as scheduled.
  15. Evaluates workload and assists as needed.
  16. Research new methods and systems.
  17. Assists in technical troubleshooting.
  18. Meets continuing education requirements.
  19. Prepares and/or assists in bench, daily, weekend and holiday schedules.
  20. Makes adjustments for workload, maintenance and unscheduled workflow problems.
  21. Maintains all requirements for MLS job code.
  22. Complies with safety, infection prevention, continuous improvement, and continuing education programs:
  23. Adheres to section, laboratory, hospital and system guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  24. Models compliance behavior in all regulatory requirements.
  25. Provides documentation for annual review.
  26. Maintains HIPAA requirements at all times.
  27. Provides leadership and communication links between the technical staff, the nontechnical staff, the managers and the laboratory director:
  28. Provides problem solving expertise and leadership skills in technical training, information systems and workload problems and issues.
  29. Exhibits written and oral communication skills.
  30. Participates in student and employee training and orientation as needed.
  31. Assists in HR activities as directed by the supervisor, manager or director.
  32. Acts as laboratory leadership in the absence of Director, Supervisor or Manager.
  33. Payroll activities as needed.
  34. Participates in leadership activities and continuing education.
  35. Models good work habits to include attendance and productivity.
  36. Activates appropriate procedures for downtime and oversees recovery as necessary.
  37. Creates and oversees scheduling if required by entity.
  38. Models THR Leadership Behaviors and exemplifies professional accountability.
  39. May assess ongoing competency.
  40. Participates and fulfills project assignments, facility changes, new methods or instrument implementation:
  41. Participates in budget preparation.
  42. Manages supplies, reagent inventory, costs and section charges.
  43. Participates in writing of new procedures and/or installation of new instruments including computer testing and documentation.
  44. Participates on interdisciplinary teams.
  45. Participates, as directed, in the development and/or maintenance of information system files and applications as required by the laboratory and section/cost center:
  46. New application testing.
  47. File maintenance and/or testing in the LIS/HIS.
  48. Program development or maintenance.
  49. Manages resources within the guideline of the section/cost center budget and productivity indicators:
  50. Provides information for budget preparation.
  51. Participates in the evaluation of resource costs.
  52. Places supply orders.
  53. Monitors use of supplies and personnel resources.
  54. Investigates supply and delivery issues.
  55. Meets productivity targets.
  56. Meets budget targets, i.e. cost/test targets.
