Job description

General Summary of Position

Performs routine and specialized assays and provides technical advice and information in point of care and emergency clinical laboratories to support diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Analyzes body fluids, cells, and products to identify abnormal and critical disorders related to disease processes. Serves as a knowledge expert and technical consultant in the specialty area(s).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Evaluates specimen adequacy for testing; obtains specimens for analysis.
  2. Reviews and verifies test results; communicates abnormal/unusual results to appropriate personnel; completes documentation accurately.
  3. Performs routine and specialized testing; correlates findings with disease stages; confirms abnormal results and manages specimen discrepancies.
  4. Performs daily quality control and assurance measures; reports issues; evaluates proficiency testing materials.
  5. Analyzes technical problems related to specimen collection, data, and instrumentation; determines causes and rectifies issues.
  6. Calibrates instruments; performs preventive and corrective maintenance; maintains documentation.
  7. Participates in continuing education; presents in-services annually.
  8. Keeps work area clean and organized; decontaminates surfaces and equipment.
  9. Participates in training students and new employees; provides technical support to staff.
  10. Communicates shift information for operational continuity.
  11. Demonstrates troubleshooting skills; adheres to QC and maintenance schedules.
  12. Submits occurrence reports for process improvements; suggests processing enhancements.
  13. Maintains low error rates as per standards.
  14. Follows standard work procedures; reports issues promptly; participates in workflow audits.
  15. Adheres to scheduled breaks to ensure coverage; maintains supplies to prevent delays.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field; or Medical Degree. Degree requirements may be waived for qualified military-trained individuals.

Experience: 1-2 years of clinical laboratory experience or training.

Licenses and Certifications: ASCP or AMT certification required, or equivalent; or specialist certification in the designated area. Waived for applicants with extensive experience or relevant degrees.

Position hiring range: $34.98 - $62.52
