Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System Corporation is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) at the new regional medical center in Largo, MD. The role performs routine and specialized laboratory testing, ensures quality, and participates as a team member in patient care services.

Under general supervision, the MLS II maintains records, calibrates instruments, troubleshoots issues, trains new staff, and adheres to regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Medical Technology or related science preferred.
• Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field or completion of Military Lab Technician program with experience required.
• ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and specialized laboratory testing in assigned specialty area following SOPs.
• Correlates laboratory findings with disease states; integrates data from other areas; confirms abnormal results and resolves discrepancies; initiates follow-up actions.
• Calibrates instruments; performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
• Troubleshoots routine technical and analytical problems including specimen collection issues.
• Monitors and reviews quality control data and QA information; documents quality occurrences; initiates corrective actions.
• Performs testing per regulatory and accreditation standards; handles proficiency testing samples as required.
• Ensures tests are completed within turnaround time and reconciles pending reports.
• Provides orientation and training to new employees; attends continuing education sessions.
• Assists in reviewing SOPs as requested.
• Maintains neat bench area and replenishes supplies.
• May serve as charge technologist on shifts; troubleshoots operations problems and initiates corrective actions.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology

Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field

Military Laboratory Technician program with experience
