Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Hastings, MI

Shift: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, every other weekend.

Pay Range

$26.32+ per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market factors. Eligible for annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in all testing areas and troubleshoot instruments/procedures.
• Support quality control, complex problem troubleshooting, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
• Perform and report assigned analytical tests per SOP, ensuring quality control requirements.
• Actively support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, testing, reporting, and record keeping.
• Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times, including STAT or critical results to clients.
• Ensure reagents/test kits have correct dates and are opened appropriately.
• Document quality control analysis and decide on assay/test disposition.
• Inform supervisors of problems affecting test procedures and report deviations for investigation.
• Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review.
• Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
• Complete training and competency checklists as needed.
• Assist supervisor with training other personnel.
• Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
• Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
• Answer client or lab personnel questions.
• Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
• Assume lead responsibilities when supervisor absent, if qualified and delegated.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity clinical laboratory testing.
• Preferred: Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most recent year in current department.
• BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Associates in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology. ASCP Certification required within one year of start.
• Knowledge of designated specialty, departmental policies, and departmental procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
• Proven leadership, problem‑solving, detail‑orientation, independent work, and multitasking skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of organizational and departmental policies.
• Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation; US‑educated candidates must provide official transcripts.
• Compliance with state testing certifications as applicable.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Lifting and carrying: 1‑10 lb frequently; 11‑25 lb occasionally; 36‑50 lb rarely; over 50 lb only with assistance.
• Ability to stand at a bench for long periods and frequent walking or standing.
• Use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring manual dexterity.
