Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for the Days shift (full-time) at KUCC - North. The MLS will perform comprehensive laboratory testing, ensuring accurate and timely results with high quality for patients.

Responsibilities include analyzing specimens, calibrating and maintaining instruments, performing phlebotomy where applicable, and supporting quality assurance activities. The role may require floating to other locations within the system.

Qualifications

• Meets CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant clinical laboratory science field is required.
• Certification or eligibility for MLS within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Analyze patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and record results promptly.
• Calibrate, maintain, operate, troubleshoot instrumentation and document issues.
• Complete continuing education and maintain documentation.
• Follow regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards and procedures.
• Instruct, orient and mentor students, employees, residents and other staff as applicable.
• Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure proper storage of reagents.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Perform phlebotomy and sample collection as applicable.
• Review results, correlate with patient conditions and identify abnormal or critical values.
• Verify accuracy and initiate corrective action as needed.
• May float to other locations within the organization.
• Prepare product preparations in compliance with applicable standards.
