Job summary

McLaren seeks a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist to perform a range of laboratory analyses for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The role follows accreditation guidelines and quality control standards, with responsibilities across chemistry, hematology, and microbiology.

Essential duties include processing and reporting cultures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring inventory levels. The position is full-time with an evening schedule and weekend work as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field or associate degree.
• MT certification or certified within 18 months of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

• Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices.
• Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
• Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
• Processes, reads, and reports cultures from various sources as well as antibiotic sensitivities and other microbiology procedures.
• Ensures operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
