Job summary

Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 to join the Chemistry team on a full-time night shift (4-10 hour shifts, 9:30pm–8:00am). The role emphasizes quality assurance, SOP adherence, and QA/QC responsibilities within a dynamic laboratory setting.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in science and MLS/Medical Technology training; ASCP/AMT certification per scope is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science from a college/university recognized by accreditation bodies.
• MLS/Medical Technology degree preferred; licensure/certification per ASCP/AMT guidelines.
• ASCP/AMT Board certification consistent with scope of responsibility to include MT/MLS/MLT.

Responsibilities

• Reviews technical activities for quality assurance per facility requirements.
• Prepares and maintains readiness for laboratory inspections (self and onsite).
• Follows SOPs and documents knowledge of contents.
• Performs QC measures and corrective actions with proper documentation.
• Acts as a resource for coworkers, customers, and patients on technical questions.
• Reports accurate results and minimizes corrected reports due to factors beyond control.
• Other duties as assigned.

Medical Laboratory Scientist 2Job Responsibilities:

• Reviews technical activities for quality assurance per facility requirements.
• Participates and helps prepare Laboratory for self and onsite inspections.
• Follows site specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and instructions; Annually reads SOP and documents knowledge of contents.
• Performs required Quality Control (QC) measures, including corrective action and documentation, for all procedures and instrumentation; Recognizes QC problems or discrepancies and attempts to determine cause of problems prior to notification. Notifies appropriate individual(s) regarding QC problems or discrepancies according to the established procedures.
• Acts as a resource person/key operator for coworkers, customers and patients for technical questions; Demonstrates an expanded knowledge of technical and administrative tasks beyond normal technical operations.
• Reports accurate results while minimizing the number of corrected reports not attributed to auto-verification or specimen conditions beyond technical control.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education-Bachelor’s degree in science from a college/university recognized by regional or national accreditation agency. Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology preferred. Other acceptable forms of education will follow the guidelines of ASCP/AMT Board certification.
• Experience- 1 yr. Clinical. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS program, NAACLS or ABHES accredited MSL program, or a foreign medical laboratory science clinical training program within the last five years can be used in lieu of one year of full time acceptable clinical experience.
• Certification Upon Start:ASCP or AMT Board certification consistent with scope of responsibility to include MT, MLS, MLT, BB, SBB, C, H, M, SH, SCT, MB, SMB, SM, SC, and HEW.
