Qualifications

Job Summary

* Under the direction of the Laboratory Assistant Director, the Medical Technologist performs clinical laboratory testing and carries out duties necessary for test procedures in hematology, urinalysis, immunology, immunohematology, chemistry, and microbiology.*

Responsibilities

• Performs tests in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, immunology, and urinalysis.
• Uses the Laboratory Information System (LIS) effectively and efficiently.
• Participates in quality control and documents actions taken.
• Operates and maintains instruments, performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
• Participates in continuing education.
• Handles specimen collection and preparation responsibly.
• Maintains supply stocks and clean work areas.
• Prepares specimens for referral to outside labs when necessary.
• Collects blood samples from various patient groups, including those with special needs.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited Bachelor's Science Medical Technologist program (BSMT).

Required Licensure and Certifications

• Certified by ASCP, NCA, AAB, or AMT as a Medical Technologist.
• Candidates eligible to sit for certification exams within six months may be considered and must be certified within six months of hire.
