Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist will handle specimen processing, perform test analyses, report results, and maintain complete records of patient test outcomes, following CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory quality control policies.

Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and record‑keeping.
- Maintain records proving proficiency testing samples are treated like patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures and department SOPs.
- Review and release test results.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
- Follow laboratory policies when test systems deviate from acceptable performance.
- Identify, correct, or report issues that affect test performance or reporting.
- Document corrective actions taken for deviations.
- Report STATS or critical results per department procedure.
- Answer questions from customers or lab personnel.
- Maintain complete and accurate testing records.
- Maintain the general appearance of the department.
- Ensure reagents/test kits have correct received, expiration, and opened dates.
- Review and train on new procedures.
- Attend monthly department and additional training/educational meetings.
- Participate in safety training sessions.
- Assist with government or regulatory agency inspections.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
- BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate’s in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR §493.1433.
- Eligibility for national certification as MT/MLT from a recognized organization (ASCP or AMT).
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience.
