Job summary

Spectraforce Technologies invites applications for a Medical Lab Scientist I in Indianapolis, IN. This 12-month contract-to-Possible-FTE role operates in the Immunology Laboratory on the 1st shift, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with responsibilities spanning routine and complex testing and specimen management.

Applicants should hold a Medical Technology or life sciences degree, with preferred ASCP certification and Immunology/LIS experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Medical Technology or life sciences per CLIA requirements.
• Additional qualification: 90 semester hours with biology, chemistry, and math coursework.
• Experience in clinical laboratory testing preferred; ASCP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex testing in a hospital lab following SOPs.
• Work in Immunology Lab with emphasis on pipetting techniques.
• Document and report results promptly and accurately.
• Maintain instrument function, maintenance, and quality controls.
• Process specimens and manage bench supplies as needed.
• Adhere to safety, PPE, and regulatory standards.

Job Title: Medical Lab Scientist I

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Duration: 12 Months (Contract-to-Possible-FTE)

Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in a hospital laboratory environment, following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Work within the Immunology Lab and perform testing procedures with a strong focus on pipetting techniques.
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate sound technical judgment when making testing decisions and troubleshooting laboratory issues.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents and controls as required.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Accurately document and report test results in a timely manner.
• Assist with specimen processing and other laboratory functions as needed.
• Monitor and replenish testing bench supplies.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow all applicable safety and quality standards.
• Maintain a safe work environment and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Work independently as well as collaboratively with other members of the laboratory team.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or another qualifying life science discipline, meeting applicable CLIA requirements.
• Candidates with a BS in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science must have at least 1 year of training or experience in the specialty in which testing will be performed, equivalent to training received in a medical technology program.
• Candidates may also qualify with 90 semester hours from an accredited institution, including:
  • 16 semester hours of Biology
  • 16 semester hours of Chemistry, including at least 6 hours of inorganic Chemistry
  • 3 semester hours of Math
  • Plus an accredited Clinical Laboratory training program or 1 year of documented clinical laboratory training/experience in the testing specialty.
• An Associate's Degree in Medical Technology may also qualify, depending on applicable CLIA requirements.
• ASCP certification is preferred.
• Minimum 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience preferred; candidates with relevant MLT experience may be considered based on qualifications.
• Strong pipetting skills are required.
• Previous experience in Immunology is strongly preferred.
• Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) is preferred.
• Epic Beaker experience is preferred.
• Proficient with computers and laboratory systems.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screening.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.

Laboratory Environment:

• Department: Immunology Laboratory
• Strong preference for candidates with hands-on pipetting and Immunology experience.
• Blood Bank experience is not required.
• Experience using laboratory information systems is preferred, particularly Epic Beaker.

Additional Requirements:

• Educational credentials and transcripts will be subject to verification.
• Candidates must meet applicable CLIA standards for laboratory testing personnel.
• Hepatitis B vaccination is optional; candidates who decline the vaccination may be required to complete a declination form.
• Must comply with applicable laboratory safety, quality, and PPE requirements.
