PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Responsible for assisting Medical Lab Scientists and Technicians in processing and testing clinical and environmental samples.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under general supervision, follow company policies and procedures, applying acquired skills to complete routine tasks.
- Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct, department and company policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, including PPE usage, proper techniques, and biohazard disposal.
- Assist Technologists and Technicians in preparing and testing samples.
- Preliminarily screen received samples for quality and quantity, if applicable by local requirements.
- Prepare reagents under supervision, if applicable by local requirements.
- Prepare testing environment and perform routine maintenance on instrumentation as needed.
- Perform routine laboratory protocols such as pipetting and measuring samples, if applicable.
- Monitor supplies, reagents, chemicals, and equipment inventory.
- Record data accurately during laboratory tasks.
- Load QA materials as assigned, if applicable.
- Provide feedback for process improvements.
- Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
- Maintain adequate supplies and reagents in the department.
- Assist in pre- and post-analysis work.
- Refer issues to senior staff as necessary.
- Assist with various projects as assigned by supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned, possibly focusing on specific departments or locations.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs, sit/stand, and perform repetitive tasks such as pipetting.
- Work with clinical and environmental samples, chemicals, and reagents.
- Work in a medium to high noise environment.
Supervision: No prior supervisory experience required.
Education: High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree in Biological or Laboratory Sciences preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- 1-2 years of related experience or relevant college coursework.
- Knowledge of lab testing and instrumentation operation.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Follow precise instructions requiring accuracy and speed.
- Proficiency in MS Office and laboratory software.
