Job description

Under close supervision, incumbents learn to perform routine specimen collection, proper collection of various laboratory specimens, confidential document tracking and reconciliation, data entry, and provide organizational and logistical support to the Clinical Laboratory Scientists and department. All work is reviewed with the goal of achieving certification within one year.

Under general guidance, responsible for performing skilled phlebotomy on all patients. Collects various laboratory specimens, performs lab test research and pre-analytical specimen processing, follows up on test results, maintains confidential document tracking and reconciliation, data entry, and supports the Clinical Laboratory Scientists and department. May assist with creating or updating procedures and policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document maintenance procedures and maintain adequate supplies.
• Collect and process biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Respond proactively to stressful circumstances, customer needs, and department/clinic changes.
• Demonstrate professional development through participation in continuing education, special projects, and community activities.
• Comply with laboratory safety and infection control policies to ensure a safe work environment.

Requirements

• Comprehensive knowledge of routine laboratory procedures, techniques, and instruments.
• Must obtain Phlebotomy certification (ASCP or other recognized agency); Medical Assistant certification (by an accredited agency).
• EMT certification (by an accredited agency) within one (1) year of appointment.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with work experience in a similar laboratory.
