Job summary

Northside Hospital is seeking a Blood Bank Technologist III to oversee technical and regulatory aspects of Transfusion Services and to perform the duties of a Blood Bank Technologist II.

The role requires MT certification eligibility and a strong background in clinical laboratory science, with options for advancement within Northside’s award-winning program. This is a night shift position with weekend requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Eligible for certification examination by ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, or HHS (HEW).
• Associate degree with MT certification from an accredited institution; MT certification required.
• Military program graduate in science with MT certification; eligible for MT cert.

• Provide technical and regulatory oversight of Transfusion Services.
• Perform duties of a Blood Bank Technologist II.
• Ensure compliance with standards and regulations in a transfusion setting.

Responsibilities

The Blood Bank Technologist III has responsibility for technical and regulatory oversight of the Transfusion Services and performs the duties of a Blood Bank Technologist II.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Must submit to a color-acuity screening test.
• Two (2) years’ experience in a clinical laboratory
• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution and applicants must be eligible for an appropriate certification examination.
• Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)

OR

• Associates Degree in laboratory science (Chemical or Biological Science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution and certification as a Medical Technologist.
  • Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)

OR

• Graduate of a Military Program in Science (health science, biology, chemical, physical, medical technology) and certification as a Medical Technologist.
  • Acceptable certifying agencies include ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)

OR

• Grandfathered Medical Technologist by having previously qualified as a technologist on or before February 28, 1992 and current certification as a Medical Technologist.
  • Acceptable certifying agencies include ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)
• Ability to implement and perform clinical laboratory procedures according to proper standards and regulations.
