Brookwood Baptist Health in Homewood, AL seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform and report complex laboratory testing, verify QC data, and maintain instrument systems. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and patient confidentiality in a fast-paced clinical lab.

The candidate will contribute to infection control, data integrity, and continuous quality improvement, while collaborating with lab teams and following regulatory requirements.

Qualificações

• Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technician.
• Associate degree in related field.
• Requires ASCP or AMT certification or equivalent as a Medical Laboratory Technician; certification must be completed within 6 months of hire.

• Performs moderately and highly complex laboratory testing in area(s) within the clinical laboratory.
• Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
• Demonstrates computer system proficiency including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
• Maintains infection control and safety practices and keeps a clean and organized work area.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records and hospital information.
• Performs specimen collection procedures, specimen receiving and processing as required.
• Assists with instrument maintenance and quality improvement initiatives.

• Performs and reports routine laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes.
• Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
• Performs and reports routine laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes.

• Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
• Demonstrates computer system proficiency including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
• Ensures proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies.
• Communicates critical results to the patient caregiver.
• Regularly reports all unusual findings to the immediate supervisor.
• Regularly reports work activities and pending work to the oncoming technologist.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
• Assumes one or more of the following responsibilities under the supervision of the Medical Technologist or Team Leader: supply/reagent ordering or preparation, primary operator of minor instrumentation, projects, or teaching/training.
• Performs specimen collection procedures, specimen receiving and processing as required.
• Answers the telephone and greets guests to the department.
• Maintains current job knowledge in order to effectively instruct students or other personnel.
• Responsible for an active role in the laboratory quality improvement program including performance and evaluation of key quality indicators.
• Follows the established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
• Practices infection control and safety practices and keeps a clean and organized work area.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records, hospital and departmental matters at all times.
• Perform other duties as directed under supervision of Medical Technologist or Team Leader.
