Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) 7 On/7 Off Nights| 5 PM–5 AM

As a Medical Lab Technician at Baptist Health Citizens you will perform moderately complex general laboratory testing in the area(s) of licensure under the direction of a Medical Technologist. This position functions as a generalist with a primary focus in Chemistry and is responsible for laboratory duties across multiple disciplines, including Blood Bank and phlebotomy. The MLT works collaboratively with the laboratory and clinical teams to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality testing and patient care.

Baptist Health Citizens Hospital is a 122-bed medical and surgical facility located in Talladega, Alabama. The hospital provides a broad range of services, including diagnostic imaging, digestive health, orthopedics, sleep medicine, and surgical services. Its dedicated sleep disorder center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

What you will do

• Performs and reports routine laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes.
• Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
• Performs and reports routine laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes.
• Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
• Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
• Demonstrates computer system proficiency including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
• Ensures proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies.
• Communicates critical results to the patient caregiver.
• Regularly reports all unusual findings to the immediate supervisor.
• Regularly reports work activities and pending work to the oncoming technologist.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
• Assumes one or more of the following responsibilities under the supervision of the Medical Technologist or Team Leader:
• supply/reagent ordering or preparation, primary operator of minor instrumentation, projects, or teaching/training.
• Performs specimen collection procedures, specimen receiving and processing as required.
• Answers the telephone and greets guests to the department.
• Maintains current job knowledge in order to effectively instruct students or other personnel.
• Responsible for an active role in the laboratory quality improvement program including performance and evaluation of key quality
• indicators.
• Follows the established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
• Practices infection control and safety practices and keeps a clean and organized work area.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records, hospital and departmental matters at all times.
• Perform other duties as directed under supervision of Medical Technologist or Team Leader.
