Mercy Health in Irvine, KY, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) to perform routine analytical tests on blood and tissue specimens using diverse lab equipment. The role requires attention to patient safety and accurate reporting of results.

Ideal candidates will have an MLT certification or eligible status, three years of clinical laboratory experience, and formal education in Medical Lab Technology.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology or equivalent.
• 60 semester hours with chemistry and biology plus Medical Lab Technician Program.
• 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training within the past ten years.
• Certification: MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligible by a recognized agency (ASCP).

Responsabilités

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner according to procedures.
• Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or by recognizing abnormal results.
• Recognizes factors that affect measurements and acts per protocols.
• Performs quality control for all testing and ensures results meet established ranges.
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by equipment checks and adhering to policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) – Marcum & Wallace Hospital

Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) is responsible for performing the routine test on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, as well as providing physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) must have a total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity.

Essential Functions

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures
• Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/ unusual results
• Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results by taking the appropriate action according to protocols
• Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before patient results are released
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, monitoring temperatures following hospital policies, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment
• Other duties as assigned

Education

• Must have one of the following:
  • Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology
  • Completed 60 semester hours (including six hours of chemistry and six of biology) of academic credit from a college or university accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency and have completed a Medical Lab Technician Program
  • Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years

Certifications

• For BSMH: MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required)
• For RSFH (as of 3/27/25) - if registry eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date.

Experience

• Three years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting (required)
