Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician II at Marcum & Wallace Hospital. The incumbent will perform routine tests on blood and tissue, ensure accurate results, and support physicians with timely reporting.

Emphasis on patient safety and adherence to lab protocols is required. The ideal candidate has 3 years of clinical lab experience, is able to perform quality control, and may hold ASCP certification or be eligible.

Qualifications

• Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology or equivalent.
• 60 semester hours including chemistry and biology, plus completion of an MLT program.
• 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training within the past ten years.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine analytical tests on specimens using clinical lab equipment.
• Assesses specimen acceptability via visual inspection and result review.
• Performs quality control and ensures results meet established ranges before release.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and compliant lab environment and troubleshoots equipment.

Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) – Marcum & Wallace Hospital

Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) is responsible for performing the routine test on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, as well as providing physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) must have a total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity.

Essential Functions

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures
• Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/ unusual results
• Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results by taking the appropriate action according to protocols
• Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before patient results are released
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, monitoring temperatures following hospital policies, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment
• Other duties as assigned

Education

• Must have one of the following:
  • Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology
  • Completed 60 semester hours (including six hours of chemistry and six of biology) of academic credit from a college or university accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency and have completed a Medical Lab Technician Program
  • Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years

Certifications

• For BSMH: MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required)
• For RSFH (as of 3/27/25) - if registry eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date.

Experience

• Three years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting (required)

• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-pasted environment
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
