Shifts: Friday to Sunday Nights 12's, 7p-7a

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Medical Lab Technicians (MLT) assist physicians and other specialists by performing all aspects of testing on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids. The results are used to diagnose and treat patients. The technician confirms test results and provides data necessary for medical decisions.

Essential Job Functions

1. Performs routine, moderate, and highly complex laboratory diagnostic tests.
2. Confirms test results and provides data for diagnosis and treatment.
3. Follows quality control programs to ensure accuracy and reliability.
4. Performs, records, and evaluates Quality Control procedures.
5. Monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment.
6. Assists with training of new employees and students on lab procedures and equipment.
7. Uses Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS) effectively.
8. Participates in continuing education in relevant areas.
9. Assists with inventory control.

Licensing/Certification

Must possess MLT certification or be eligible through a recognized agency (preferably ASCP). For RSFH, if registry-eligible, certification must be achieved within 12 months of hire.

Education

Must have one of the following:

• An associate degree in Medical Lab Technology, or
• Completed at least 60 semester hours including 6 hours each of chemistry and biology, from an accredited college, and completed a medical lab technician program, or
• Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years.

Work Experience

Preferred 2 years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
