Job summary

Mercy Health in Springfield is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT) to perform routine tests on blood, tissues, and other specimens, delivering quality results to physicians using clinical lab equipment. Emphasis on patient safety and anonymity throughout all procedures.

Ideal candidates have 1) competence in routine lab techniques, and 2) awareness of quality control and safety standards in a hospital laboratory setting.

Qualifications

• Must have one of the following: AS in Medical Lab Technology; 60 semester hours including chemistry and biology with MLT program completed; 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training within the past ten years.

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner per procedures.
• Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or by recognizing abnormal results.
• Recognizes factors that affect measurements and takes action per protocols.
• Performs quality control for all testing and ensures results meet established ranges.
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by equipment checks and area cleaning.
