Job summary

UAB Medicine, Alabama’s largest health system, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to support anesthesia lab operations in a high-acuity surgical setting. You will perform STAT testing, assist during procedures, and monitor specialized equipment in both laboratory and OR environments.

The role requires an accredited MLT certification and a related associate’s degree, with a sign-on bonus potentially available for eligible full‑time hires.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a related field is required.
• Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
• Students in a related associate's degree program must obtain degree within ninety (90) days from date of hire to classification.
• Must be certified as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or with the American Medical Technologists (AMT) within thirteen (13) months of hire date.

• Assemble, calibrate and perform preventative maintenance and quality control checks on anesthesia laboratory equipment.

Position Overview

Pay range: $21.80 - $35.45 / hour

Sign-on bonus: $10,000 new hire sign-on bonus may be available (full-time only)

Shifts: full-time PM (three 12-hour shifts)

Schedules: 6:30 p.m.-7 a.m.

Job Highlights

The anesthesia laboratory supports surgical teams across multiple integrated service areas by providing STAT testing to directly support high-acuity surgeries, including transplant and cardiac procedures. You’ll perform cell salvage, autologous blood transfusions, and manage critical surgical support equipment.
