Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is seeking a Medical Lab Technician for the evening shift to support the Des Moines Laboratory with precise testing and data reporting in a high-volume setting. You will work under supervision, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with Medical Technologists to ensure accurate results and timely turnaround.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in science-related field required.
• Completion of NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program or alternate path that meets certification eligibility requirements.
• Certification in ASCP or AMT for MLT; must be completed within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical information resource for MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and troubleshoot accordingly
• Consult with Medical Technologists and/or Medical Laboratory Scientists when appropriate
• Perform tasks and procedures specific to assigned section with minimal supervision

As a Medical Lab Technician at MercyOne, you will:

• Act as technical information resource for MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory

• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or results and uses knowledge and skills to troubleshoot and resolve them

• Consult with Medical Technologists and/or Medical Laboratory Scientists when appropriate

• Perform tasks and procedures specific to assigned section with minimal supervision

Schedule

• 40 hours a week

• Evenings

General Requirements

• Associate’s degree in science-related field
• Successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program or alternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements
• Certification in either Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• A person may be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration for the certification exam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.
