Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technician, ASCP performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role involves duties across the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases of laboratory workflow. Responsibilities may include delegating work in the absence of a supervisor or lead, ensuring compliance with CLIA standards under 42CFR493.1495 for high complexity testing and 42CFR493.1425 for moderate complexity testing.

Responsibilities
  • Perform moderate/high complexity tests authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director, utilizing skills aligned with education, training, and experience.
  • Follow procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing is conducted similarly to patient specimens.
  • Adhere to quality control policies, document activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Identify and address problems affecting test performance or results, notifying supervisors or the Medical Director as needed.
  • Document corrective actions for deviations from performance standards.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree and completion of an accredited Medical Technology program or a related laboratory science degree with equivalent training and experience.
  • Certification: ASCP or equivalent MLT/categorical certification.
  • Preferred: One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, analyzers), basic computer skills, LIS, and related tools.
