Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to support high quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. You will prepare specimens, perform routine tests, and participate in quality control and maintenance.

Requires a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field; ASCP BOC or equivalent certification preferred, or certification must be obtained within the first year.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology or related field; certification preferred at hire
• If not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment
• Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is also acceptable with certification by ASCP BOC or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests
• Conduct quality control and maintenance procedures
• Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and resolve data issues
• Communicate technical information to medical staff and lay persons
• Assist with training of laboratory personnel and participate in continuing education
