Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician to support high-quality testing in a clinical laboratory. You will prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests while maintaining quality control and instrument maintenance.

Education requirements include a BS in Medical Technology or related discipline, and ASCP BOC certification (or equivalent) with certification required within the first year if not already certified.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or relevant medical/scientific discipline
• Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP BOC) or equivalent; if not certified, certification must be obtained within first year of employment
• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Certification as Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP BOC or equivalent; if not certified, certification must be obtained within first year

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests
• Perform quality control and maintenance procedures
• Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and recognize data problems
• Communicate technical information to medical and lay persons
• Assist with training laboratory personnel and participate in continuing education
