Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to support clinical laboratory testing, prepare specimens and perform routine assays.

Candidates should hold a BS in Medical Technology or related field, ASCP BOC certification (or equivalent) and may qualify with an associate degree for consideration; certification within first year is required if not certified. This is a regular, full-time position with hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or similar field.
• ASCP BOC Medical Laboratory Scientist certification or equivalent; obtain within first year if not certified.
• Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology as an alternative pathway.
• Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment if not already.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests.
• Conduct quality control and maintenance procedures.
• Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and resolve data issues.
• Communicate technical information to medical and lay readers.
• Assist with training of laboratory personnel and participate in continuing education.
