Job summary

Southcoast Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician for per diem shifts at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, MA. Under supervision, you will perform routine laboratory analyses with accuracy and maintain proper sample handling.

Ideal candidates hold an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, ASCP certification within two years, and experience in Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank; vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 is required unless exempted by a signed statement.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.
• Experience in Chemistry, Hematology and Blood Bank is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform all routine laboratory analyses with accuracy and precision according to procedures.
• Identify critical/unexpected results and notify Supervisor or Clinical Specialist.
• Prepare samples for analysis and draw correct specimens and volumes.
• Assign accession numbers and maintain a neat, orderly workstation.

Hours: Per Diem

Shift: Flexible shifts and hours, 7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:00pm - 11:30pm

Location: Tobey Hospital - Wareham, MA

**Available to regular status employees who are scheduled to work a minimum of 24 hours.

Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Laboratory or designee, perform all routine laboratory analysis with accuracy and precision and according to written procedures. Identify all critical or unexpected results and verify results according to established procedures. Notify Supervisor or Clinical Specialist as appropriate. Prepare samples for analysis. Draw correct specimen and volume. Assign accession numbers. Maintain workstation in a neat and orderly fashion.

• Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science required.

• One year of experience in multiple laboratory disciplines including Chemistry, Hematology and Blood Bank preferred.

• Medical Laboratory Technician certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent certification is required within two years from date of hire and if applicable maintain certification through ASCP or comparable approved agency.

• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired

Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.
