Job summary

Job Details: Job Location: Medina Regional Hospital 3100 Ave E - Hondo, TX, Position Type: PRN, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Travel Percentage: None, Job Shift: Varying, SummaryMedical Technologist, in collaboration with the Laboratory team, performs specimen processing and testing independently to include moderate and high complexity testing in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease by performing the following duties.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesConducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.Studies blood cells, their numbers, and morphology.Performs blood group, type, and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.Trains and supervises students.Other duties as assigned.Key Success FactorsKnowledge of laboratory technical skills and medical terminology.General computer skills, including but not limited to using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.Verbal and written communication skills.Ability to problem solve.Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.Customer service skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Qualifications: Education and/or ExperienceGraduate of an accredited bachelor’s degree program.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMedical Technologist, American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or AmericanMedical Technologist (AMT) certification required within 12 months of hire date.Other Skills and AbilitiesAble to manage periods of high laboratory volume.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met byan employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
