Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform comprehensive laboratory testing and data analysis to support patient diagnosis and treatment. The role includes QC, instrument maintenance, and data entry, with supervision of students as needed.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in medical technology, a CLS Generalist license in Louisiana, and MT ASCP or equivalent certification, with strong communication and computer skills to report timely results.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The Medical Technologist performs medical laboratory tests procedures and analyses to provide data for use in diagnosis treatment and prevention of disease Assures laboratory results are accurate and reported timely
Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical dataPerforms routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedureVerifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents dataRecords on instrument logs any repairs replacement and maintenance needed of equipmentConducts chemical hematological microbiological immunological serological and immunohematological analyses of body fluids such as blood urine spinal fluid and other specimens submitted for laboratory testing to determine presence of normal and abnormal componentsAnalyzes test results and enters findings in computerTrains and supervises studentsPerforms duties according to age specific needs of patientsPerforms troubleshooting as necessaryCall critical results within established guidelinesNotifies Pathologist and Section leader of any unusual or unexpected findingsMeets established turnaround timesThe above statements are only meant to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job The incumbents may be requested to perform job related tasks other than those stated in this description
