Job summary

ADP, Inc. Toledo laboratory seeks a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician to perform chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor. You will maintain records, report results promptly and support quality control processes.

Four years of college including chemistry, biology and microbiology are required to take the ASCP/AMT registry, with ASCP/AMT certification preferred and two years of clinical lab experience desired.

Qualifications

• Four years of college including chemistry, biology and microbiology to qualify for ASCP/AMT registry.
• ASCP/AMT preferred; two years clinical laboratory testing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures in designated lab sections.
• Work under supervision of the Lab Supervisor.
• Maintain records of procedures, patient results and quality control; plot on Levey-Jennings charts; investigate out-of-control runs.
• Review and verify accuracy of laboratory reports.
• Maintain equipment; log daily temperature checks and preventive/remedial maintenance.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and inform in advance of reordering needs.
• Address STAT requests promptly and communicate results to authorized recipients.
• May participate in research and development of new procedures; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures in one or more functional laboratory sections.

Works under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor.

• Consistently arrives at work on time and adheres to regular work schedule.
• Performs procedures in designated areas of the laboratory for which competency has been verified by a qualified technician/technologist and/or supervisor.
• Maintains records of procedure performance, patient results, and quality control in the laboratory section. Plots results of control runs on Levey-Jennings charts. Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of-control runs, and implements necessary remedial action.
• Reviews and verifies accuracy of relevant laboratory reports.
• Maintains equipment, logging daily temp. checks, and logs preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains proper inventory of laboratory supplies, informing in advance of reordering needs.
• When presented with a "STAT" request(s), stops all other routine activities and promptly addresses the STAT. Calls or faxes the results promptly as indicated on the request to individuals authorized to receive lab results/information.

Other Essential Duties May Include but Are Not Limited To

• May participate in research and development of new procedures and changes to existent procedures.

Required:

• Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed.
• Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles.

Education:

• Four (4) years college course including chemistry, biology and microbiology necessary to take (ASCP/AMT) registry.

Preferred:

• ASCP/AMT.
• Two years of experience in clinical laboratory testing.
