Job summary

Lone Peak Hospital in Draper, UT is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist FSED to perform routine laboratory testing with independent judgment. You will supervise staff, ensure quality control, and assist with phlebotomy as needed.

The role requires a MT/MLS degree, certification eligibility within 6 months, and preferably 6 months of hospital lab experience. Excellent communication and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology (MT), MLS or related sciences including a practical training program.
  • Certification or registry eligibility within 6 months of hire (ASCP, NCA, or AMT).
  • Minimum 6 months experience as a Medical Technologist in an acute care hospital laboratory preferred.
  • Good verbal and writing skills; computer knowledge and keyboarding skills; color-blind test required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard laboratory procedures with broad independent judgment and minimal supervision; act as a resource to staff.
  • Oversee staff, report results, and maintain policies, procedures, and quality control.
  • Participate in CQI activities and perform phlebotomy duties as needed.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Under direction of the Director Laboratory Services and Pathologist, the Medical Technologist performs standard laboratory procedures requiring a broad use of independent judgment, problem solving and responsibility with minimal technical supervision, and acts as a resource to the department staff. By exercising oversight of staff performing tests, reporting of test results, maintenance of policies and procedures, and quality control practices. Participates in CQI activities. Performs phlebotomy duties as needed.

Position Requirements:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration - Need to be certified or registry eligible, by providing documentation of certification within 6 months of hire, in one of the following: ASCP, NCA, or AMT. Licensure in a specialty area will be considered.
  • Education - Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or related sciences including a practical training program.
  • Experience - A minimum of 6 months experience as a Medical Technologist in an acute care hospital laboratory setting preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Good verbal and writing skills required. Good computer knowledge and keyboarding skills required. Must be able to correctly and safely run department equipment. This position is required to successfully pass a color-blind test.
  • Degree of Supervision Required - Involves general guidance and direction by Director of Laboratory Services. The Medical Technologist is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Orientation Period - Minimum of two weeks contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by Manager.
